Higbee Law Associates (Picrights) sent me a copyright infringement demand letter

I now am dealing with Higbee Law Associates representing Picrights.

Any one know of a good caring lawyer that would not charge a large sum in case I need it?

If a letter is of great legal force it seems like it might be sent certified or in a way that you would sign that you got it.

Possibly that is what they will send next and with even a greater charge.

I'm not a lawyer, but here are my thoughts from going through this myself.

Everyone's situation is different so you can find a lawyer to talk to for free.

1. Check if their client has filed lawsuits in the past. most aren't worth their time. If you have 1 image on your personal blog, it's probably safe to just remove the photo and move on.
2. IF you decide to settle to get it off your mind... the HIGHEST (in my opinion) you should offer is $1250. ($750 for the most likely amount the client would win if they go to court for 1 image + $500 in generous lawyer fees for writing you that letter). Most should be happy to take $375 (half of minimum damage) if it's in the initial demand stage.
3. NEVER give their lawyer more info to play with. remember, they are representing their client and the goal is to squeeze money out of YOU.
4. If you want a lawyer to help, they usually go for $175-300 for consultation and they'll write a evaluate/respond for you. I spoke to some lawyers and was advised to either 1. ignore it or 2. settle it on my own .. just offer $500. I ended up asking the lawyer to respond for me because I was in panic mode.
